The High House, Stafford: Stocksy

From 10 July to 30 October, The Ancient High House in Stafford will be hosting an exhibition to commemorate the Battle of Britain and the local people who played such an important part in it. Focusing on the involvement of both the Home Front and the Services, the exhibition includes personal accounts, original drawings and memorabilia to celebrate the bravery of the pilots and those who manned the Sector Operations on the ground. From these stations, battles were directed and orchestrated by members of the local community who ensured that the Spitfires and Hurricanes were up in time to meet the incoming raids.

The exhibition runs for the length of the original battle and brings to light the stories of some of the forgotten heroes of the Battle of Britain; heroes such as the Polish pilots who fought with the RAF, without whom there might have been a very different outcome.

A favourite day to visit this commemorative exhibition will no doubt be 15 September, ‘Battle of Britain Day’. The Ancient High House is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11pm to 4pm and the exhibition is open to the public with no entrance fee. For more information, visit:
