[Competition Closed] MHM April Quiz – win a copy of Spomenik Monument Database

1 min read

This issue, we’re giving away three copies of the Spomenik Monument Database, courtesy of FUEL.

Spomenik – the Serbo-Croat/Slovenian word for ‘monument’ – refers to a series of memorials built in Tito’s Republic of Yugoslavia from the 1960s to the 1990s, marking the horror of the occupation and the defeat of Axis forces there during World War II.

Hundreds were built across the country, from coastal resorts to remote mountains. This book brings together the largest collection of spomeniks published to date.

Each of the 80 spomeniks that have been included were photographed and carefully researched by the author, Donald Niebyl, making the Spomenik Monument Database the most comprehensive survey of this obscure and fascinating architectural phenomenon yet produced.

Inside the back cover, a map – complete with precise GPS coordinates – enables readers to track down the monuments for themselves.

Competition closes 6 May 2019
