1 min read

Battle Proms, the UK’s premier picnic concert series, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and MHM has three pairs of tickets to give away!

Since their first concert in 1997, the Battle Proms have been treating their audiences to a heady mix of sublime classical music, carefully choreographed Spitfire and and cavalry displays, dramatic cannon fire, and stunning firework finales.

As the series enters its 20th anniversary, five of the UK’s most celebrated stately homes will play host to the ever popular open-air concert series: Battle Proms 2017. The opening night of Battle Proms returns to Burghley House, Lincolnshire on Saturday 8 July. On Saturday 15 July, the action moves to Queen Elizabeth Oak Field of Hatfield House, Hertfordshire. Next stop is the World Heritage Site Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, on Saturday 22 July. The penultimate concert is at a venue recognisable to many as the real ‘Downton Abbey’: Highclere Castle, Hampshire, on Saturday 5 August. Finally, the Battle Proms heads to Ragley Hall, Warwickshire, on Saturday 12 August. Battle Proms takes much of its inspiration from the Napoleonic Wars, and is the only place in the world where you can see Beethoven’s Battle Symphony performed as he intended. Celebrating a key victory during the Peninsular War, the Battle Symphony was composed to include 193 live-firing cannons. The Battle Proms team brings over 200 cannons to each of their concerts, for use in the symphony. It is this authentic, groundshaking percussion that makes the Battle Proms signature piece a truly remarkable experience.
