2011-Spitfire---Credit-Darren-HarbarThe Battle Proms are back for another explosive season at stunning locations around the country, including Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, and Highclere Castle, the setting for Downton Abbey. These stately settings provide the perfect backdrop for a summer celebration with music, fireworks, cannons, and aerial and cavalry displays. In addition to a full orchestral programme of sublime classical music, these picnic concerts feature a carefully choreographed Spitfire aerial display and stunning firework finale. This year the thrilling and ever popular mounted skill-at-arms display by an expert cavalry troop will be carried out in WWI regalia to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War – just one of many elements in the 2014 programme that pay homage to this important centenary.
