This issue, we’re giving away three copies of 24 Hours at Balaclava, courtesy of the History Press.

At the Battle of Balaclava, the British squandered a near victory against Russia by recklessly sending 664 British light cavalry spurring down the ‘Valley of Death’, as immortalised by Alfred Lord Tennyson’s famous poem. Half the British cavalry in the Crimea was destroyed.

In 24 Hours at Balaclava, acclaimed military historian Robert Kershaw brings readers down from the Heights to reveal new perspectives of the ordinary men on both sides who ‘saw little and knew even less’.

Through contemporary eye-witness letters, diaries and personal accounts, experience the real story of one of the most ill-fated military expeditions in British history.
