REC Watches presents a Limited Edition timepiece incorporating aluminium from the wings of the only 1944 Spitfire aircraft to return to the UK after having crashed on the Russian tundra during WWII.

Copenhagen, Denmark (August 10, 2019) – in the Spring of 1945 a Spitfire aircraft crashed on the Russian tundra during a dogfight. Her incredible story is captivated in the RJM 04 BLUEBIRD – limited to 334 pieces. The RJM is the worlds’ first timepiece that combines authentic salvaged Spitfire aircraft material with both the design of the aircraft itself and the watches worn by the pilots of the WWII era.

RJM 04 BLUEBIRD and PT879 – “the Russian Spit”
When we first introduced the RJM collection in December 2018, we knew these timepieces would be limited due to the scarce nature of Spitfire aircrafts. Less than 100 Spitfire aircrafts are in air-worthy condition today. Now, nine months after the introduction of the RJM, we are finally
ready to let the fourth and final RJM timepiece see the light of day.

Having punched all the Spitfire aircraft dials, we put aside some metal from the tip of the left wing. We needed it for something truly special: the RJM 04 BLUEBIRD. This timepiece marks the end of an era for the RJM as it completes the collection. The RJM was and still is our most ambitious project to date.

The RJM 04 BLUEBIRD features a blue sunburst dial and a blue woven strap, as we honor the RAF pilots and their famous blue uniform. The story of how the azure color became synonymous with the uniforms of the British Royal Air Force pre-dates the RAF itself, as the blue fabric was originally manufactured for the Russian army. However due to the Russian Revolution the RAF acquired these uniforms after having been founded in 1918.

In honour of this one-of-a-kind aircraft, we will be donating part of the proceeds of every sold RJM timepiece towards the restoration of PT879, the donor Mark IX Spitfire aircraft, such that she may soon return to where she belongs: the skies!
